wastematchers - based in macroom - looks like a great initiative - here’s the lowdown from the examiner:
> an online database for members of the public to post their unwanted materials online.
>
> Items can range from motor parts to musical instruments, pottery to pet goods, and garden furniture to electronic equipment.
>
> Browsers can then log on and search for these unwanted items and find another use for them.
>
> The website is free and household items are offered free of charge to others.

Good point James - I reckon I was in charitable mood when I gave it such a positive press.
I’m surprised to see the the Irish and UK Freecycle groups all use Yahoo groups for the messaging system - there are some much better modern web tools for managing and searching these networks of offers… unfortunately the Macroom one isn’t it… time for one of those spangly web 2.0 companies to spring into action!

If they want to solve the waste problem then they should shut that website down.
What is wrong with the existing Freecycle network? They should promote existing infrastructure.
It sounds to me as though someone in the council either has no idea about what is already out there or they are trying to score some easy green points.
“At least they are trying,” is the wrong answer.
