i live in west cork, ireland. mostly i run distance learning courses for the Organic College. these run on moodle. i also look after lots of websites for people - mainly based on wordpress. open source web based applications are wonderful things! i’m hoping to clear lots of time soon to give something back to the community that’s helped me so much.

i used to look after web sites for the scottish agricultural college and then edinburgh univerity. i came to ireland to stop using computers so much! i’ve failed on that front! but i’ve succeeded in finding a lovely family, some beautiful land (house to be built soon), and in that i now work for myself and manage to use my environmental science and organic agriculture training in combination with my love of computers and the internet. phew!

ABOUT THIS WEBSITE

this website uses open source software to host it and to run the web pages. many thanks to the wonderful community of people who have created all this software. in particular i use:

  • wordpress (for the blog)
  • folderblog (for the picture blog)
  • customised themes for both of the above (i.e. i started with what someone else had done)
  • markdown for writing the blog posts (saves writing lots of html)
  • apache, php and mysql serving the pages.

the site also adheres to web standards which should mean that everyone can read it. please let me know if something isn’t working for you.

slan! t.

I found my way here looking for a forest garden in Aberdeenshire. You are obviously on the same tip, but on another island! Can you help me find this place? I am currently planting such a garden in Perthshire, so it would be wonderful to speak to someone having done something similar nearby. Hopefully, Miles
